FDA files injunction against Kansas feed company

Cooperative Agricultural Services Inc. of Grinnell, Kansas, has received an injunction after its feed caused the deaths of livestock.

Investigations by the Food and Drug Administration revealed that the company violated FDA's Good Manufacturing Practice requirements for feed manufacturers,.

On Aug 16, permanent injunction against the company was filed in the US District Court for the District of Kansas.

The company was ordered to stop manufacturing and distributing medicated feed until it provides assurances that its manufacturing methods complies with those of the FDA's.

The company would also be required to hire an expert consultant to conduct inspections of its manufacturing facility and certify to the FDA that the company has made the required adjustments.

Also, the company's medicated feeds must now be tested by a qualified laboratory and the company must modify medicated feeds which exceeded FDA potency limits.

The FDA would have the power to require a recall or shutdown in the event of future violations.

Cooperative Agricultural Services produces and distributes medicated and non-medicated feed to users in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Colorado.
