Russia reports FMD outbreak in Tambovskiy District

Russia's veterinary authorities have reported another outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in Tambovskiy District affecting more cattle.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 14 on September 30.

On September 29, Antigen (Ag) detection ELISA and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were carried out, confirming the presence of the FMD virus, serotype A.

A total of 432 animals were found susceptible, out of which 21 cases were found. However, no deaths were recorded, and no animals were destroyed, according to the report.

The OIE said that the outbreak is in the buffer zone, near the state border of Russia and China.

The source of the outbreaks has not yet been determined.
