On September 22, Nedap Agri launched its PTS (Performance Testing Station) in Beijing. The PTS collects data on individual pig performance in group housing, thereby helping to select the best breeding pigs.

Nedap PTS is newly developed based on the Velos livestock management system platform. It combines pig performance testing, quantitative feeding, feed conversion rate (FCR), automatic weighing and automatic feeding, used for breeding pig performance testing and farm intelligent management.

According to a technical expert at Nedap, with the best breeding pigs, pork producers can produce 30 - 40% more pork. And the PTS provides relevant information to support that, including which is the best pig ranked by feed conversion rate, which pig does not eat enough and which pig did not feed at the system at all.

Customised for the China market, Nedap PTS is more accurate, more reliable, easier to use and provides safer storage of data in terms of data collection, saving and analysis as compared to existing products in the market. The PTS provides processed data related to FCR, including weight development and eating, and also other unprocessed data.

The product allows automatic breeding pig performance testing, fulfilling the needs of testing centre and pig farm onsite. Nedap PTS can be used at the breeding farm, where it collects and analyses performance data of pigs to support the selection of breeding pigs to meet specific market needs; in pig farms, where it can provide information on the best breeding pig and improve the competitive advantage of the farm; and finally in feed research, where it can be used to conduct feed test, in order to improve feed formula.

John Yeung, General Manager of Nedap Agri China, says, "It will be able to answer the needs of pig farmers for improvements of the genetics and thus ensuring the quality of safe, tasty and low cost pork to the Chinese and global consumers."

Yeung also mentioned that Nedap China will establish reference farms in the different regions of China. In the meantime, Nedap China will provide technical training and support for the reference farm, to effectively promoting Nedap PTS to the China market.
