China's grain production to rise more than 20% in autumn 2012

China's grain production is expected to rise more than 20% on year in the autumn of 2012 as the country overcomes drought, pest plague and typhoon.

The country's autumn grain-planting area reached 5.19 million hectares this year, up 41,200 hectares over last year.

Autumn grain mainly includes corn, and middle and late-season rice, accounting for about 80% of the full year's total grain output.

With autumn grain output anticipated to rise, China will likely achieve a bumper grain harvest for the ninth straight year in 2012. Earlier data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed that its summer grain reached 129.95 million tonnes, up 3.56 million tonnes or 2.8% over last year.
