China's September soy imports to hit 4.9 million tonnes
 

 

China's Ministry of Commerce said last Sunday (Sep 26) that the country's soy imports may surge 79% on-year to 4.91 million tonnes in September.

 

The figure reflects a 2.94% increase from the 4.77 million tonnes imported in August.

 

The country's soy imports hit a monthly record of 6.2 million tonnes in June this year.

 

In the first eight months of this year, China imported a total of 35.53 million tonnes soy, 20% more than in the corresponding period of 2009, according to the latest statistics released by the General Administration of Customs (GAC).

 

The GAC estimated that the country's soy imports will exceed 51 million tonnes this year, an increase of about 20% from the 42.55 million tonnes imported in 2009.
