Uruguay joins US aquaculture network
The president of Uruguay, José Mujica, has authorised the country's entrance into the Network of Aquaculture of the Americas (RAA).
This organisation was created last March with the aim of promoting sustainable development of aquaculture in numerous countries across the region, encouraging cooperation and also fostering intergovernmental food security and combating poverty.
As a member of the RAA, Uruguay will benefit with regards to training, human resources, research development and exchange of information, among other things.
The network will also enable managers and specialists in the field to gain experience in areas such as production technologies, health, safety and regional aspects of the markets economy, indicates the official press release.
The RAA currently consists of the following countries: Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, French Guyana, Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Haiti and Canada.
The body consists of a Council of Ministers and Secretaries of State from each of the member countries, as well as a Board of representatives from the all the different regions of the Americas.
It also includes a Technical Committee, composed of one expert from each country and an Executive Secretariat.
