Pakistan groups warn of nationwide strike over high chick prices
The Multan Poultry Association and control shed association staged a protest demonstration in the city on the high price of day-old chicks, but warned that the strike would spread nationwide.
Day-old chick prices have surged from PKR15 to PKR75 amid suspicions of a cartel formed by local hatcheries.
The sharp rise in day-old chick prices have caused chicken meat prices to sell at a costly PKR250 per kg, said the poultry association.
The association said it is an illegal and unethical profit-making practice by day-old chicks growers, adding that the strike would spread nationwide if the practice did not stop immediately.
