China sends back US soy due to pest discovery

China sent back 460 tonnes of US soy due to the discovery of a pest called the Khapra beetle, the Chinanews.com cited General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine as saying Friday (September 28).

The administration's Guangdong bureau found the pest and harmful weeds from the shipment during its check, according to the report.

China sent back the soy and has suspended soy exports from the Scoular Co. which shipped them, it said.

China has asked the US to investigate over the issue and strengthen its supervision over soy exports to China, it said.

The administration wasn't immediately available for comment.
