Russian poultry production fine but beef disappoints

Russia's poultry production, which has seen a meteoric rise in the past two years, is chugging along whereas beef production is sputtering.

Russian Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev, in a report to Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov, said that Russia would see an increase in poultry production but beef performance would be worse than usual.

The minister expects poultry production to rise but problems with beef production meant that imports would grow by 40 percent compared to the last year.

Russia is fully dependant on he price situation in the West, the minister stated.
