BASF Increases Prices For Propionic Acid

BASF is increasing its prices for propionic acid by 100 €/t in Europe with effect from October 1, 2004. The price hike comes in response to rising costs and unsatisfactory margins.

Propionic acid is used as a preservative in foodstuffs and animal feed and for various applications in the chemical industry. BASF is one of the leading manufacturers of propionic acid, and the company's new Asian plant goes on stream in 2005.
