Danish poultry less antibiotic-resistant bacteria than imports
The annual Danmap report on the use of antibiotics and resistant bacteria in animals, foods and humans, said that bacteria in imported poultry products is more resistant to antibiotics than bacteria in Danish poultry.
Results for turkey products were extremely bad as all imported turkey tested for salmonella were found to be resistant to antibiotics. No tests on Danish turkey were made as turkey breeding is non-existent in Denmark.
The Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries is taking random tests of both Danish-produced and imported meat to come to grips with the problem of resistant bacteria.
