Chicken Prices Remain Unchanged In Bird Flu-Hit Malaysian State

Chicken are being sold at the usual price in Kelantan, Malaysia amid the bird flu outbreak in the state. More than 13,000 fowls have already been culled to contain the spread of the avian flu.

According to Kelantan Chicken Breeders' Association Chairman Mohd Radzuan Hamat, dressed chicken is being sold at between RM4 and RM4.50 a kilo.

He claimed that chicken prices in Kelantan were still among the cheapest in the country.

"There's no reason for the price to drop further in the present situation," he said.

Mohd Radzuan, however, said ex-farm price for poultry traders dwindled to RM3.20 a kilo from RM3.80, while chicken bought at poultry farms cost RM2.80 a kilo compared to RM3.50 previously.

He said some 50,000 chickens were sold in Kelantan markets daily.
