China unlikely to import US corn in near term
China is unlikely to import US corn in the near term despite high domestic prices that have risen above the cost of imports in some areas, according to the US Grains Council on Monday (Sept 28).
USGC Senior Director in China Cary Sifferath said the government corn reserves are currently large enough to meet demand ahead of the harvest.
He said the political sensitivity of corn imports would also discourage imports from the US.
But imports may be possible if domestic prices remain high into next spring and summer, he added.
