EU mulls lifting of Pakistan seafood import ban
EU has plans for suspending the ban which it had imposed on the import of seafood from Pakistan.
The discussion regarding the same will be held by the EU delegates in Pakistan next month.
The EU had imposed the ban on the imports of seafood from Pakistan during April 2007, citing substandard quality as the reason.
After this ban, Pakistan government had adopted several initiatives at the fishing harbour as well as the processing plants located in Karachi so as to adhere to the standards of the EU.
However, despite the EU ban, Pakistan's seafood export was 5,327 tonnes in August 2009, compared to 5,032 tonnes during the like period last year.
