China's Henan To Auction 1 Million Tons Wheat In Mid-October

China's central Henan province will offer 1 million metric tons of old wheat from state reserves for an auction sale come mid-October, an official from the China Zhengzhou Grain Wholesale Market in Henan said Monday.

The auction will be held from Oct. 15-16, 2003 and the amount will be 1 million tons. The wheat being offered was produced before 1998, added the official. Traders said it will be the largest wheat auction held in China so far this calendar year.

The Chinese government holds grain auctions each year to rotate old stocks with new crop grains. For 2003, the government is targeting to sell 15 million tons of grains from state reserves, traders have said.
