EU regulator to inspect Russian poultry producers in October

The European Commission's Directorate General for Health and Consumers (DG SANCO) will inspect the poultry producers in Russia's Kaliningrad Region who are keen in exports to the EU countries in the first half of October 2010.

SANCO plans to consider the outcome of the inspection as soon as possible and after that to inspect local pork and beef producers for compliance with the EU requirements.

The directorate has already decided to approve free transit of Russian poultry across the territory of all the EU countries.

Sergei Dankvert, the head of Russia's food safety watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor, pointed out the remaining imbalance in mutual relations, saying that the access of Russian foods to the European market is hindered compared with the freedom of supply of the EU foods to Russian consumers.
