Vietnam shrimp exports to US rake in US$200 million so far
Domestic enterprises have so far earned US$200 million from exporting 20,000 tonnes of shrimp to the US this year, up 2 percent in value and 18 percent in volume from a year earlier, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) reported.
Vietnamese shrimp, especially big prawn, has been more favored in the US market, the association said.
VASEP also predicted that shrimp exports to the US will increase sharply this year, supported by soaring demand in the market.
A recent decision made by the US Department of Commerce (DOC) on cutting anti-dumping duty for imports of Vietnamese frozen shrimp is expected to bring more opportunities for local seafood exporters, the VASEP added.
In August, shrimp topped among Vietnam's exported seafood products with 95,400 tonnes, valued at US$773.7 million, up 4.6 percent in volume and down 2.1 percent in value.
