UK's Grampian Country Foods exits frozen chicken business
Grampian Country Foods Group, one of the UK's biggest meat processors announced they have decided to exit the frozen chicken market due to falling sales.
Around 110 jobs are to be affected by the move at the company's Aberdeen chicken processing factory, which only produces frozen chicken.
The company said slow sales and increased production costs has led to the decision and is now deciding what to do with the site.
The company has been shedding hundreds of jobs of late. 330 jobs were lost last year when the firm shut its pig processing operations.
The company is one of UK's biggest meat processors but its profits had fallen and it incurred rising debts even after it shut down four plants and laid off more than 1,000 employees.
Grampian Country Foods has a workforce of more than 20,000 people in Britain, the Netherlands and Thailand. The regional managing director of the company said in a statement he regretted the announcement.
