Market analysis

Competition in the lysine market tightened as more producers resumed operation after the summer hiatus. Producers who were eager to promote sales cut prices in efforts to stimulate sales. However, feed millers were reluctant to stockpile inventories amid low confidence in the outlook of the livestock market.

In Europe, price quotes for Q4 deliveries were in the range of EUR1.31-1.37/kg. For major customers, January deliveries for Chinese products were at EUR1.14-1.20/kg.

Market forecast

Demand for lysine is unlikely to be strong with the population of hog limited. Moreover, feed millers are highly reluctant to stock inventories and prefer to procure as and when required. With supplies abundant and demand sluggish, lysine market is projected to weaken further.
