Namibia to export more beef to Norway

Namibia plans to send more beef exports to Norway and will seek an increased quota under the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) and Free Trade Area (FTA) arrangements.

In a statement, the Ministry of Trade and Industry said that Namibia has attempted to enter the Norwegian market with bone-in-lamb over the years and this has not been resolved yet.

Minister of trade and industry Hage Geingob will attend meetings at Norway pertaining to issues of strategic economic interest to Namibia and promote the investment from Norwegian companies into Namibian production and agro processing.

Currently, Namibia exports beef to Norway under Norwegian GSP scheme and the SACU-Norway Agricultural Agreement. Norwegian GSP system grants an annual quota of 2,700 tonnes where as SACU-FTA agreement grants an annual quota of 500 tonnes.
