USDA provides US$20 million for Louisiana aquaculture producers

Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain says US$20 million from USDA is available to Louisiana aquaculture producers who need assistance due to last year's high feed costs.

Strain says it covers producers whose feed costs last year were 25% higher than the 2003-07 five-year average and made up at least 25% of total input costs for the aquaculture operation.

He says the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry will administer the programme.
