Bangladeshi city faces plummeting beef sales

Sales of beef have plunged by almost 80% in Rangpur, Bangladesh and its adjacent districts due to anthrax scare, frustrating local meat sellers.

Many meat shops have been closed so far. Beef sellers at Jahaz Company area of Rangpur city said they slaughtered at least four to five cows in shops every day before the incident but now it has become difficult to sell the meat of even one cow.

Bakkor Mia, a beef trader of Rangpur said people have stopped offering beef even in social events like wedding ceremony.

District livestock officer of Rangpur Ayub Ali said they had continued to advise the people not to panic over the issue as the government had adequate vaccine and enough preparation to face any adverse circumstances.
