Scottish pig meat industry shows benefits from policy

Scotland's pig producers and processors say they are beginning to see the first concrete achievements of a new strategy launched this year.

The pig industry decided this year to spend levy money raised in Scotland on a three-year strategy centered on increased farm efficiency. A new three-year post dedicated to the pig sector has been created.

Encouraging interim results from Scotland's 'ZAP Salmonella Scheme' show that the level of Salmonella antibodies within the pig herd has been substantially reduced from previously recorded figures, with the downward trend continuing.
