Russia's Adygeya bans pork supplies from Krasnodar
Due to African swine fever virus or ASFV outbreak in the Krasnodar Region, Russia's republic of Adygeya announced a ban on pork products and live pigs supplies from the region, said Yevgeny Aganin, senior expert of the veterinary directorate in Adygeya.
In September, outbreaks of the disease have been registered in the Shcherbinovsky and Abinsk districts of the Krasnodar Region. Since the beginning of 2011, swine fever outbreaks have also been registered in the region's Kurganinsk, Labinsk, Gulkevichesk, and Tbilissk districts.
African swine fever virus, or ASFV, is a contagious viral disease, which is potentially lethal to the infected animals. ASFV poses no health risk to humans, according to the World Organization of Animal Health.
