EU to ban all Chinese milk products for children

The EU will ban all Chinese milk products intended for children, in view of the recent melamine-contaminated milk scandal in China, according to an European Commission spokeswoman.

The decision was made following a test by the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA), which revealed that children run the risk of absorbing melamine if they consume products containing milk powder from China.

Products containing Chinese milk powder but are not intended for children will be subject to extensive tests.

So far in China, four children have died and 53,000 other sickened after consuming baby milk or milk products that are contaminated with melamine, an industrial chemical used to manufacture plastics.
