Russia reports H5N1 bird flu outbreak in Krasnodar Region
Russia's emergencies ministry said Tuesday (September 25) an outbreak of the H5N1 strain of bird flu had been registered in the southern Krasnodar region, where 707 chickens have died of the disease and another 170,599 have been culled to prevent the spread of the infection.
The emergencies ministry said the outbreak began August 28 on the Lebyazhnye-Chepeginskoe poultry farm in the village of Razdolny in the Bryukhovetsky district of the Krasnodar region.
Both federal and regional veterinary experts were working to contain the outbreak and there had been no chicken deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
