Russia may impose ban on US, Australian firms' meat imports

Starting October 5, a temporary restriction on the meat imports from US's Tyson Fresh Meats Inc. and Australia's Ralphs Meat Company PTY Ltd may be imposed by Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight.

The service said in a statement on Monday (Sep 24) that it detected ractopamine in pork imported from the US company and a bacterium of collibacillus, or E.coli in beef lots supplied by the Australian company.

Moreover, the watchdog has imposed similar restrictions on Indonesian company Pt. Panca Mitra Multiperdana, in whose fish E.coli bacteria were found. The temporally ban is to be introduced against Belgian company Vitamex Baastrode after the DNA of ruminant animals was found in the company's feed.
