Indonesia may reach shrimp export target despite falling supplies

Indonesia will reach its shrimp export target of US$2.8 billion this year despite falling supply from local producers in the past three month, an official said.

In the seven months of thus tear exports already reached US$1.6 billion, Saut P Hutagalung, the foreign marketing director at the fishery ministry said.

The country's production has declined in the past three months, but the quality of Indonesian shrimp has improved as indicated by fewer cases of rejection in export markets, Saut said.

Fewer cases of rejection this year would offset a decline in export volume, he said, adding in the past several years rejections were frequent significantly bearing on the export value.
