JBS signs Amazon pact with Greenpeace
JBS has agreed to a pact with Greenpeace to source its cattle and beef products from sustainable areas, and would not source from deforested Amazon areas.
The agreement includes the adoption of Zero Deforestation in the Amazon within the entire supply chain and the rejection of products that originated from properties involved in the use of indigenous and protected areas.
Cattle and beef products will only be sourced from ranches or farms that practice a reliable traceability system.
JBS will inform its suppliers of these requirements, and non-compliant suppliers will be removed from the company's supplier list.
JBS SA is currently the world's largest beef producer and exporter with 65 plants worldwide. The company is also the third largest pork producer in the US.
