Norway's 2009 salmon exports amount to US$3.90 billion
Norwegian salmon and trout totalled NOK23 billion (EUR2.92 billion, US$3.90 billion) in exports for 2009, according to export association Eksportutvalget for Fisk.
The products were exported to 96 countries.
The largest exporter, besides those that also are producers, is Coast Seafood, which reached a NOK2.6 billion (US$0.44 billion) turnover in 2009. The company grew by 30% in 2009 and is now the largest independent exporter in the world.
One of the founders of Sverre Søraa says Coast Seafood's concept is based on close relationships with small, family-owned fish farmers along the Norwegian coast. The company also initiates contacts between fish farmers and customers abroad to make the producers understand the markets.
