US egg output up one percent in August
US egg production totalled 7.59 billion in August, up one percent on-year, according to USDA statistics.
Production included 6.51 billion table eggs, and 1.08 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.00 billion were broiler type and 72 million were egg type.
Broiler type chicks hatched during August 2009 totalled 778 million, down three percent on-year. Eggs in incubators totalled 618 million as of September 1, down three percent from a year earlier.
During August, leading breeders placed 7.13 million broiler type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks, down seven percent from August 2008.
