Azerbaijan meat production down slightly in August
                        


Azerbaijan's meat production in August fell 2.9 percent against July, but increased by 8.3 percent against last year.

 

Meat production was down 11 percent against June and 4.3 percent against January.

 

The State Statistics Committee (SSC) said meat production totalled 23,600 tonnes against 24,300 tonnes in July, 27,300 tonnes in June, 24,645 tonnes in January and 21,800 tonnes in August 2008.

 

In January to August, 194,200 tonnes of meat were produced against 193,000 tonnes for the same period as last year, up 0.6 percent. In December 2008, 25,300 tonnes of meat were produced as compared to 25,900 tonnes in December 2007.

 

SSC said that 941,500 tonnes of milk were produced in January to August, an increase of 2 percent as compared to last year. 803,300 eggs were produced as compared to 729,000 eggs last year, up 10.2 percent.

 

By July 1, 2009, country's cattle stock increased by 2 percent to 2.58 million heads, while pig stock reduced by 6.8 percent to 12,000 heads.

 

As of January 1, 2009, the country's cattle stock increased by 1.5 percent to 2.549 million heads, while pig stock reduced by 37.6 percent to 11,700 heads.
