India summer oilseed output forecast up 15.52 million tonnes

India's summer oilseed production is expected to be around 15.52 million tonnes, up from an earlier trade estimate of 15.15 million tonnes, a senior industry official said Friday (September 21).

"I feel that oilseed production in India could rise by almost 400,000 tonnes because of late monsoon showers in main oilseed producing provinces of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh," said Govind Bhai Patel, a trader and chairman of Central Organization of Oil Industry & Trade.

He said soy production of around 8.7 million tonnes can be expected in the November 2007 to October 2008 period, against earlier estimate of 8.6 million tonnes.

Groundnut production is expected to be around 4.9 million tonnes during that period, against an earlier estimate of 4.6 million tonnes.
