Vietnam to aid Cambodia against FMD outbreaks

Vietnam's southern province of Tay Ninh is set to provide foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccine assistance for Cambodia's eastern province of Kom Pong Cham, to help stamp out the disease outbreaks in livestock.

Assistance include 10,000 doses of vaccine against FMD and 200 litres of antiseptic worth over VND200 million (US$20,260).

To prevent the spread of the disease, Tay Ninh province has urged Kom Pong Cham authorities to ban the transport of cattle from the epidemic areas across the border into Vietnam, according to reports.

The province has also asked police, customs, border guards and market management forces as well as the people's committees of border districts to strengthen coordination in preventing illegal cross-border cattle transport.

From September 15 to October 20, the province will conduct an inoculation against blood infections and FMD on its livestock.

Kom Pong Cham province reported on September 14, that around 14,000 cattle had contracted FMD.
