Russia to export nearly 19 million tonnes of grains in 2009
Russian grain exports this year is expected to reach nearly 19 million tonnes, down from 23 million tonnes in the previous grain year, according to Minister of Agriculture Elena Skrynnik on Monday (Sept 21).
The government expects to produce 85 million tonnes of grain this year, exceeding the average indices of recent 10 years and meeting local demands and being able to export volumes, said Skrynnik.
As of July 1, 2009, carryover stocks also increased 70 percent on-year to 17.4 million tonnes.
Russian grain exports in August were 2.19 million tonnes, down from 2.37 million tonnes in August 2008.
