US cattle on feed down one percent in September 1
Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the US for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totalled 9.9 million head on September 1, 2009, down one percent on-year.
Placements in feedlots during August totalled 2.11 million, up two percent on-year. Net placements were 2.06 million head.
During August, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 pounds were 425,000, 600-699 pounds were 395,000, 700-799 pounds were 515,000, and 800 pounds and greater were 775,000.
Marketings of fed cattle during August totalled 1.81 million, four-percent below 2008. This is the lowest fed cattle marketings for the month of August since the series began in 1996.
Other disappearance increased 12 percent on-year to 55,000 during August.
