Drought damages 520,000 hectares of grains in Mexico
A total of 520,000 hectares of grains have been severely damaged by drought in many key growing regions across Mexico, the National Farmers Confederation, or CNC, said Monday (Sept 21).
The CNC said that 250,000 hectares of corn have been "totally lost" to the drought and 180,000 hectares of sorghum have also been severely damaged.
Agricultural producers across Mexico, the majority of them small subsistence farmers, are in urgent need of financial support, the CNC said in a statement.
