Malaysia to allow chicken imports for Hari Raya Aidilfitri
The Malaysian government is allowing the import of processed chicken to meet the expected higher demand during Hari Raya Aidilfitri early next month.
Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed said the 20 companies given importing permits would be able to meet the projected 20-percent increase of demand during the festival.
This is the first time Malaysia is allowing processed chicken to be imported, said Mohamed.
Previously, Malaysia only allowed the import of chicken parts.
Mohamed said this move is to ensure sufficient chicken supply for the festive season.
