Multiexport Foods and SFP form seafood strategy

Chilean farmed salmon producer Multiexport Foods announced on Monday (Sep 20) its partnership with Seattle-based Sustainable Fisheries Partnership to develop a comprehensive sustainable seafood strategy for farmed fish operations.

The two organisations will analyse the sustainability of raw materials, sources and the supply chain, as well as evaluate the salmon farming practices and ways to improve. Multiexport Foods' Fishery Improvement Projects and Aquaculture Improvement Projects aim to constantly improve operations and address issues in a proactive way.

Andres Lyon, CEO of Multiexport Foods, noted that the farming of salmon is an important activity, nourishing the future with one of nature's healthiest proteins.

Lyon said the projects developed with SFP will further assist in a smooth transition to the sustainability certifications, once salmon standards are published in the coming months.

Meanwhile, Dick Jones, SFP's Program Director for the Americas believes the sustainability initiatives will lead to major buyers having a more sustainable source of salmon.
