Ireland's Pritchitts moves into India
An Irish dairy firm has cracked the Indian market - where more than GBP110 billion (US$178.57 billion) a year is spent on food.
Newtownards-based Pritchitts, Northern Ireland's leading exporter of creamers, including the Millac Maid minipot brands used by airlines and other transport businesses across the globe, has clinched a supply deal with an Indian major distributor.
The identity of the Indian company was not disclosed however. But it has been revealed that the distributor has a network of depots serving food service organisations such as hotels, restaurants and inflight caterers in the key Indian centres such as Mumbai and Delhi.
John Day, head of exports at Pritchitts, said the venture could provide us with a strong base in a market that is continuing to forge ahead and is projected to achieve GDP growth this year in excess of 7 percent.
Pritchitts, founded in 1928, is a GBP350 million (US$568.03 million) business exporting to 70 countries and with manufacturing sites on both sides of the border. It is part of Lakeland Dairies.
Its entry into the Indian market was announced by Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster who is about to lead an Invest NI trade mission to India.
