China buy-orders boost US pork export forecast
Total US pork exports in 2007 are expected to be 2.97 billion pounds, about 0.8 percent lower than in 2006.
The fourth quarter pork export forecast was raised by 60 million pounds, following an announcement by a major US packer of a sales agreement with China, to take place by the end of December 2007.
Small increases to first- and second-quarter export forecasts for 2008 are also attributable to continued Chinese efforts to offset domestic supply shortfalls.
US pork exports next year are expected to be almost 3.1 billion pounds, or 3.8 percent above 2007.
