Beijing pork market tests RFID tracking technology
The largest pork trade platform opened a pilot project at a leading wholesale market in Beijing on Thursday (Sep 21).
According to the officials, this is the first time for Beijing to introduce RFID technology to electronic tally system.
This will create complete electronic document for pork trade. If there is any quality problem, it can be traced all the way back to slaughterhouse and terminal of sale.
"Each pig here has an electronic identification code," an official of wholesale market said. The pork trade hall adopts RFID electronic automatic tally system, eliminates the traditional manual processes of tally and inspection.
The official said pork from designated suppliers was documented electronically at casual inspection stage. After weighting, pork would be transferred to sales floor. "We can handle 100 pigs in 30 minutes now," he said.
