Philippines' poultry producers appeal for more government investments

The Philippines poultry sector has called on the government to invest in production of feed commodities such as corn to cushion them from rising prices.

The rising economies of China, India and Russia have made agricultural and industrial commodities pricier, the United Broiler Raisers' Association and the National Egg Board stated in a joint statement to Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap.

Although this is a threat because it raises prices for feed and other additives, it is also an opportunity as chicken producers in the Philippines earn more from their exports, the statement said.

However, for such trends to become opportunities, the Philippine poultry industry must see greater investments, the statement added.
