Malaysia on alert for bird flu following recent Indonesian outbreaks
Malaysia's government said the country was on alert for any signs of bird flu spreading from neighbouring countries, following the recent outbreaks in Indonesia.
Although Malaysia did not import any poultry from Indonesia, the government said it would continue to monitor farms throughout the country.
As a precautionary measure, the government said it would step up inspections on poultry farms located close to bird sanctuaries and places where migratory birds frequently visited.
Meanwhile, additional monitoring would be done at Malaysian customs and at pet shops to check on imports of birds as well, the government said.
