Market analysis

Supplies of lysine remained ample although a couple of producers halted operation. As most feed millers have cut down production volumes a few days prior to the Mid-Autumn Festival holidays, trade was slow, dragging prices lower.

Meanwhile, worth noting, the transportation costs of lysine are set to increase 15% to 20% after the new regulation of the transport limitations come into effect on September 21. There was news that several producers have requested customers to take orders before that date to save on transport costs.

In Europe, price quotes for October/November deliveries were as low as EUR1.59/kg, although several sellers stood firm at EUR1.61-1.65/kg. For Chinese products, prices for November/ December deliveries were at EUR1.46-1.50/kg.

Market forecast

Lysine market is expected to stay weak although demand will strengthen after the Mid-Autumn Festival holidays, as feed millers stockpile inventories. However, with transportation costs substantially higher, producers will be more prudent in cutting prices.
