Brazil's egg exports down over 50% in Jan-Aug
The Brazilian Poultry Association has confirmed that Brazil's egg exports have fallen by more than half over the January to August period.
Egg shipments up until the end of August reached 7,800 tonnes, a result of 53.7% lower compared to the 17,000 tonnes shipped in the same period last year. Of these, 6,900 tonnes were fresh eggs with processed eggs making up 971 tonnes.
The drop was closely followed by a 45.5% reduction in sales revenue, at BRL14.4 million (US$6.5 million).
Africa remains the main buyer of fresh eggs, buying 3,700 tonnes with the Middle East following (2,600 tonnes), America (600 tonnes) and Asia (600 tonnes).
The main processed, dehydrated egg product exported was white powder.
