UK to export breeding pigs to China
The UK's pig industry has taken a "very significant step forward" with breeding pigs allowed for export to China, according to British Pig Executive (BPEX) chairman, Stewart Houston. BPEX is comprised of leading representatives across the British pig industry.
This announcement came following the success of a British trade delegation to China, which sought to open trade links with the country.
However, Stewart said this was not the end and the British pig industry would continue working towards opening China's market for UK pork.
China's significant demand for pork and high quality breeding pigs was spurred by rapid economic growth, and the country's desire to modernise domestic agriculture.
