Malaysia Registers Large Drop In Thai Poultry, Meat Import

The Veterinary Services Department in Malaysia has recorded a large drop in the amount of poultry and meat products brought in from southern Thailand. This follows the avian flu virus alert in Kelantan.

Local authorities had imposed a ban on all poultry and meat products from Thailand since early this year following the detection of the bird flu virus in that country.

"Previously, travellers still brought in small amounts of such products despite the ban. Now, most have stopped bringing in the items altogether," deputy director Dr Tariq Jaafar said.
