Brazilian pork exports on the rise
Brazilian pork exports in August rose in both volume and value compared to the same period last year.
According to Brazilian Pork Packaging and Export Association (Abipecs), Brazil exported 47,689 tonnes of pork in August, which is 2.6% less than the same month last year. The average price per tonne-US$2,431-was 29% higher than the same month last year. The value of August sales was US$15.9 million, 32% more than the same month last year.
Compared to the January-August period of 2009, pork exports for the year so far are down 7.2% in volume to 361,157 tonnes, while the value of those sales is up 14.8% at US$885.4 million. The average selling prices is up 23.7% at US$2,452 per tonne.
Meanwhile, Brazil's pork exports in August raked in US$115.916 million, an on-year increase of 32.4%, Abipecs reported. The increase was supported by a 29% rise in average pork prices, to US$2,431 per tonne.
