Smithfield Foods to raise pork supply to China unit
US meat giant Smithfield Foods has said it will increase pork production at its Sioux City, Iowa, plant. The pork produced will be destined for China.
The plant will begin processing an additional 3,200 hogs a day next week and will add about 250 workers. The expansion is to meet contract needs for the company's new and emerging business in China.
In August, the company announced a deal to sell 60 million pounds of pork to a Chinese trading company.
